Th history of the European Crystallography Schools, initiated by Italian colleagues (ECS1 was held in Pavia), is described here at the ECA’s website:-

ie replacing the x by the number. The current one ‘Budapest’ being 6. (In each the ECA website is mirrored to the local host organising team.)
