well.. there is no sysconfig in the /etc .. i'm currently working with ubuntu  10.04 LTS .. cheers

Hi,
I had similar problems, you need to do the following:
as root edit the following file
 /etc/sysconfig/selinux
make SELINUX: disabled
then reboot
